Jill Cancer Updates

Jill has touched thousands of basket makers with her online presence, classes, and workshops for over 30 years.  If you are one of those individuals that she has been touched in some way can you support Jill by making a small donation today?

She is scheduled for an additional surgery (double mastectomy) the day after Christmas as well as months worth of chemotherapy and radiation treatments that will occur far from home.

By making a donation today you are joining the #teamjillcancer crusade to assist in financial difficulties that happen when you're a self employed artist and unable to work.

Your support through GoFundMe is easy and funds are immediately available to help Jill through this difficult time.

Please, if you can, join us in supporting Jill through her cancer treatments.  Thank you for your continued support.

Jill's Latest Update 12/12/23

The latest after lumpectomy:

The cancer is further in my body then we had hoped for.  The pathology report shows cancer in the lymph node (one) and pre-cancerous cells surrounding the area that they removed during the lumpectomy.  This means that more surgery is required for the day after Christmas (ho-ho-ho).  Since having an additional lumpectomy would give me a 50 to 75% chance of reoccurrence I've opted for a mastectomy and if your going to have one you might as well go with two.  That guarantees no further breast cancer in the future.  But wait, my dance with cancer is not quite finished.  12 weeks of chemotherapy followed by a month of radiation in Coeur d'Alene or Post Falls begins in January.

What a crock.  Not where my head and heart was and so devastating to hear.  On the bright side no one has told me to go home and get my affairs in order so we continue to fight.

If you've been through chemo and you have words of wisdom on how to prepare please share.  I have no idea how I'm going to react to the treatments and if I'll still be able to work while undergoing them.  - JMC 12/12/23

How can I help?

    1. You can make a contribution to my GO FUND ME page If you have experienced it you can share YOUR story of how you survived cancer and THRIVED afterwards with me.

    2. If you've gone through chemo and have tips/tricks for getting through it I would also love to hear those as well.

    3. Think good thoughts and send them my way.

as always THANK YOU for your SUPPORT

Just thinking of you, as today is your Surgery day, sending positive thoughts your way and saying prayers. I have a blood cancer and have had it since it was diagnosed in 2000. I know how frightening this time can be. Breathe and believe you can get through this, I know you can.

Jill, keep plenty of Wriggley’s spearment (green pack) gum with you at all times, I swear it takes away the metallic taste in your mouth during chemo. Also keep wet wipes with aloe and extra underwear and pants with you at all times. I always have a craft bag that I can store them in. I had the lumpectomy done. Grateful I still have 2 knockers. One is smaller then the other. I can either use the right bra side for extra storage until it reaches the same size as the left. Or I can take all the excess from the sides and make the big uni-boob. We use a lot of humor. Cancer is and can be scary. I look forward to the next adventure. (I have had malignant thyroid cancer – taken out, uterine – total hysterectomy, {best one no more periods for over 3 decades}, anal cancer – took out lots of muscles there {all I have to say on that one.}. I am 61. First cancer was my 18th birthday. I grow numerous – different types of polyp’s in my colon all the time. Colonoscopies are yearly. I figured cancer hasn’t gotten me and I will probably get hit by a little volkswagon slug bug – my luck. Listen to your body as to what you can eat. Listen to your doctor’s. Be strong enough to tell people it isn’t contagious and you are still here. Tell them you don’t need pitty and talk and act like they did before cancer. You will feel whole again. You’re in my thoughts and prayers. Beth

Jill, Jesse here down on border in Bisbee. saw the email in my box a couple weeks ago, my mind and prayers have been with you- when i saw ‘I need your help’ I thought ’Jills dry humor"? hmm better open it. So i havent gotten with you because i was on my own journey which on the 13th had a mass removed hysterectomy etc etc and when i see the oncologist surgeon tommorow (was originally scheduled for TUESDAY but . . .) he should probably find the pathologyi is good. another pal of ours in talkeetna is fighting and in fact hammered me to follow through with all the fun stuff. and i have taken you both with me ( whether you knew or not). i think the most important thing you did was enlisting your troops and opening up for all these fierce friends. i long to have a spoken convo one day soon, am pretty tired now, but you and Dawn really are with me, lots of love and peace for the family. Talk soon. Jesse

A stranger here, just letting to know that what you’ve so freely given has brought a tremendous amount of joy into my life. I discovered your tutorials on YouTube whilst I was (and am) battling a protracted, confusing and scary time with my own health (those mammograms are a blast eh?) I have a tub of reed (ala your instructions) soaking in dye as I type. Being able to focus on weaving quiets my mind and gives me rare moments of peace. It’s a gift I discovered entirely through your platform. I’ve played and hit pause on some of your tutorials so many times that I know them by heart. Your down-to-earth, funny, thorough instruction is a delight. I am deeply, deeply grateful and sending every good vibe I’ve got your way. Hold steady.

So sorry to hear this. I had leukemia in 2006. I was in and out of the hospital for a while, but I am fine now. I never had trouble with the chemo they gave me, and I kept a positive attitude throughout my illness, and I truly believe that is what got me through it all. So chin up, and keep moving forward. 😊 There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Ginger is supposed to be good for nausea.
I’m in GA, and some people at work have used meal train to help – it’s not just meals – they can donate money too. People can also sign up to provide meals on different days. My mom had cancer and often said she had no choice but to fight. It was her mantra. A support group helped both of us when my husband had colon cancer. He also met with a dietician who recommended tumeric to help with inflammation. You are doing well to ask for what you need – continue to advocate and have your family do it when you cannot.
I’ll be looking out for more baskets.
Take care and fight hard.
